The Egyptian authorities on Monday executed five people -- all from the same family -- who were convicted earlier of murdering a child, according to a local judicial source.
The five had been convicted of kidnapping and murdering a four-year old girl in 2013, the source said, speaking anonymously due to restrictions on talking to media.
The executions were reportedly carried out at Tanta Prison in Egypt’s Nile Delta after President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi approved the death sentences last week.
Egypt’s Supreme Court upheld the death penalties in March of last year.
