Zambia: Over 30 people burnt to death in bus accident

LUSAKA, Zambia

Over 30 people have been burnt to death and several others injured after the bus they were traveling in overturned and caught fire in the northeastern Zambian province of Luapula.

Inspector General of police Kakoma Kanganja confirmed the development in a statement Saturday evening and said 30 people died at the scene and two others died on their way to the hospital.

“We received a report about that the unfortunate event involving 30 people who lost their lives after the bus they were travelling in overturned along Congo Pedicle road and caught fire. Our preliminary investigations revealed that the cause of an accident was speeding,” said the statement.

“The driver of the bus who unfortunately is one of the deceased was speeding and in the process lost control and the bus overturned,” he added.
