Two Pakistani civilians and an Indian soldier were killed in new round of clashes between the border forces of Pakistan and India along the two sides of disputed Kashmir region on Tuesday.
This is the third consecutive day of clashes between the two sides.
Pakistani Foreign Office spokesman Nafees Zakaria tweeted that two civilians were killed and six others were injured during "unprovoked" firing and shelling by suspected Indian border forces at two different sectors along the Line of Control -- a de facto border that divides the disputed Himalayan valley between the two nuclear rivals.
Zakaria alleged that Indian border forces were targeting civilians, calling it "condemnable".
An Indian army soldier was also killed on Tuesday afternoon along the LoC in northern Kashmir.
Col. Rajesh Kalia, Indian defense spokesman in Jammu Kashmir's Srinagar city, told the media that Pakistani troops allegedly “resorted to unprovoked firing on army positions along the LoC in Nowgam sector of Kupwara district this afternoon”.
"A soldier was killed in the Pakistani troops firing," Kalia said.
Indian officials said Tuesday's firing was the third cease-fire violation by Pakistan in the past one week.
Two Indian soldiers were killed in cross-border firing on July 12 in Keran sector of Kupwara.
Four Pakistani soldiers were killed on Sunday after their vehicle was "deliberately" targeted by Indian forces, according to Pakistan army.
Kashmir, a Muslim-majority Himalayan region, is held by India and Pakistan in parts and claimed by both in full. A small sliver of Kashmir is also held by China.
The two countries have fought three wars -- in 1948, 1965 and 1971 -- since they were partitioned in 1947, two of which were fought over Kashmir.
Kashmiri resistance groups in Jammu Kashmir have been fighting against Indian rule for independence, or for unification with neighboring Pakistan.
More than 70,000 people have reportedly been killed in the conflict since 1989. India maintains more than half-a-million troops in the disputed region.
