An Armenian army's howitzer attack in Fuzuli region killed two Azerbaijani civilians late Tuesday.

The army opened fire in Alhanli village in the Fuzuli region, killing a 2-year-old girl and a 50-year-old woman, according to a statement published by Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry,

Another woman was also injured in the attack.

The Armenian administration is "responsible for the blooded provocation", the statement said.

The two countries remain in dispute over the occupied Karabakh region that pro-Armenian militia took over in 1993.

A number of UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions refer to Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe refers to the region as being occupied by Armenian forces.
