A fire on Monday forced the evacuation of a refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesbos.

Elizabeth Dimitras, 30, a former volunteer at the facility who is in contact with current staff on the Aegean island confirmed to Anadolu Agency that most of the Moria camp was on fire and had also experienced clashes between refugees and migrants.

Different parts of the camp were set on fire that later grew out of control as a rumor spread that several migrants would return to Turkey in the coming days.

At least 308 migrants and refugees have arrived on the Greek islands on the north Aegean Sea in the last 48 hours. Ninety-three refugees arrived on Lesvos, 155 on Chios and 60 on Samos, Athens Macedonian News Agency reported.

According to the police, 5,264 are trapped on Lesvos, 3,700 on Chios and 1,166 on Samos. The total number of refugees trapped in northern Aegean exceeds 10,000 for the first time in several months.
