CANAKKALE/BURDUR, Turkey
Over 180 illegal migrants have been caught in Turkey's northwestern Canakkale and southwestern Burdur provinces as they were preparing to illegally make their way to neighboring countries, a security source said early Sunday.
A total of 150 illegal migrants were caught in Burdur's Cavdir district, the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, said.
They were mostly from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Somalia, Syria, China, Iran, and Iraq.
One of the organizers were detained while a search is underway for four others.
In addition, district gendarmerie command caught 19 Syrians and 15 Afghans including women and children in Canakkale's Bayramic district, blocking their illegal journey to the Greek island of Lesbos.
Another suspect was detained for helping the foreigners in their illegal journey.
