JERUSALEM
The Israeli army on Sunday confirmed that 64 troops had been killed and 400 others injured since the start of its ongoing military operation in the Gaza Strip last month.
"Total deaths of Israeli troops stand at 64, while the number of those injured is around 400," the Israeli army's media department said in a statement to Anadolu Agency, giving no further details.
Meanwhile, sources with the Israeli Health Ministry were quoted as saying by Channel 10 that nearly 136 soldiers are still hospitalized for injuries they sustained in combat in Gaza.
Israel has been pounding the Gaza Strip – home to 1.8 million people – for the past four weeks with the stated aim of halting rocket fire.
At least 1746 Palestinians – mostly civilians – have been killed and more than 9200 others injured in relentless Israeli attacks on the beleaguered territory.
