ANKARA
Arrest warranted for 167 people in 28 provinces of Turkey on Tuesday in police operations against terrorist organisation DHKP/C. 50 people in Istanbul were detained and the number is expected to increase.
In Ankara, police raided the headquarters of Confederation of Public Workers' Union (KESK).
KESK's lawyers told AA correspondent that arrest warrant was issued for KESK official Akman Simsek, who was detained later on. Simsek's room at union's HQ is being searched.
Attorneys said the investigation was being conducted with the claim of "being member of terrorist organisation DHKP/C" and arrest warrants were issued for several members in Ankara, Istanbul, Malatya and Balikesir, and added that, including an academic in acclaimed university METU.
In southern province of Antalya a total of 7 people were detained including two public servants.
Meanwhile 6 people in Bursa, 1 in Kocaeli, who is a medical doctor were among the detained.
