A man and wife were slightly injured in a “terrorist explosion” in eastern Bahrain late Tuesday, according to the country’s interior ministry.

The ministry said on Twitter the couple were passing when the blast occurred in Sitra area.

No further details were given by the ministry.

Tuesday’s blast took place on the 6th anniversary of pro-democracy protests that erupted in the tiny Gulf state in 2011 as part of that year’s “Arab Spring” uprisings.

A bomb blast hit Bahraini capital Manama earlier this month but caused no casualties.

The bombing came after an off-duty officer was shot dead in western Manama last month.

Last week, Bahraini authorities said three people were killed and nine arrested in twin security operations by security forces, one of which stopped escaped terrorism suspects from fleeing the country.
