At least 16 Daesh militants were killed in U.S.-led coalition strikes in Ramadi in western Iraq on Wednesday, according to an Iraqi military official.

Anbar Operations Commander Ismail al-Mahlawi told Anadolu Agency that coalition warplanes struck a Daesh convoy in northern Ramadi.

“Sixteen terrorists were killed and three vehicles destroyed during the raids,” he said.

In another development, eight Iraqi civilians were killed in a spate of bomb attacks in the capital Baghdad.

Interior Ministry official Nazem al-Zamli said that five bombings struck several districts across Baghdad.

“Eight civilians were killed and 29 others injured in the attack,” he said.

There has been no claim of responsibility for the attacks.

Iraq has suffered from a devastating security vacuum since mid-2014, when Daesh suddenly seized Mosul and overran large swathes of territory in the northern and western parts of the country.
