RAQQAH, Syria
US-led anti-Daesh coalition airstrikes killed 40 PYD/PKK terrorist late Sunday in al-Ikrishi, according to local sources.
The terrorists’ sites were also hit and an undetermined number of PYD/PKK fighters were also wounded.
The sources said there are intense clashes between PYD/PKK and Daesh around al-Ikrishi and the coalition is conducting frequent attacks on Daesh targets.
Twenty-three civilians have been killed and 46 civilians wounded by coalition airstrikes in the past 48 hours, the Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently activist network said Sunday on its social media account.
The PKK/PYD is part of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) involved in operations to capture Raqqah and has been aided with U.S. arms.
Turkey considers the PKK/PYD to be the Syrian offshoot of the PKK, a designated terrorist organization in Turkey, the U.S. and EU. However, the U.S. views the PKK/PYD as its ally in the fight against Daesh in northern Syria.
Ankara fears weapons supplied to the group will end up in the hands of PKK terrorists fighting Turkish security forces.
More than 1,200 victims, including security personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU -- resumed its decades-long armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.
