Five gunmen were reportedly killed in a shootout with Egyptian police in the canal city of Ismailia on Saturday, according to an Egyptian security source.

Police forces came under fire during a security raid on a hideout in a desert area in Ismailia, the source said on condition of anonymity because he was unauthorized to speak to media.

The forces responded to the source of fire, resulting in the death of five gunmen, the source said, giving no further details.

Egyptian authorities have yet to issue a statement on the killings.

Saturday's raid came one day after five policemen were killed in an attack on a police vehicle west of Cairo on Friday.

Last week, Egyptian police shot dead 14 gunmen in an exchange of fire in Ismailia.
