At least 13 civilians were killed by a U.S.-led coalition airstrike in western Mosul on Wednesday, according to a local Air Force pilot.

The raid targeted several houses in Al-Yarmouk neighborhood, which was recently recaptured from Daesh terrorist group in western Mosul, pilot Yazan al-Duberdani told Anadolu Agency.

"The strike left 17 people injured, mostly seriously," he said.

Iraqi authorities have launched an investigation into the incident.

There was no comment from the U.S.-led coalition on the report.

Wednesday's attack came one day after three members of the same family were killed in a coalition airstrike in western Mosul.

Civilian houses occasionally come under attacks by coalition warplanes taking part in an Iraqi offensive aimed to recapture Mosul from Daesh terrorist group, which overran the city in 2014.

Last month, a suspected coalition airstrike killed scores and injured hundreds in Mosul’s western side.
