Three civilians lost their lives Tuesday in an attack carried out by Daesh terrorists west of Iraq’s northern city of Mosul, according to an Iraqi army source.

“Daesh militants staged an attack on the outskirts of Karashabak village in Sinjar [located some 80 kilometers west of Mosul],” Army Captain Waqqas al-Adli told Anadolu Agency.

According to al-Adli, more than 10 terrorists were involved in the attack.

In a related development, Police Colonel Abdul-Basit al-Khattabi said a high-ranking Daesh terrorist -- who had been on Baghdad’s “most-wanted” list -- had been captured in the Al-Nour district east of Mosul.

Last December, officials in Baghdad had declared that Daesh’s military presence in Iraq had been all but dismantled.

However, it appears that the notorious terrorist group still maintains a network of “sleeper cells” in several parts of the country.
