Recent sustained bombing by Syrian regime warplanes have destroyed six hospitals in the southwestern city of Daraa, a civil defense official said on Thursday.

Muhammed Yusuf, a civil defense figure in the opposition-held part of the city, told Anadolu Agency Bashar al-Assad regime forces had conducted intensive assaults over the last 20 days.

Yusuf also claimed Russian jets had joined raids on residential areas in Daraa. Almost 40 percent of the city is under opposition control.

He said only one emergency unit was able to serve people among the destroyed hospitals in the opposition-held part of the city.

Yusuf did not give information about casualties.
