NEW DELHI

India with its intent to aid in the destruction of chemical weapons offers $1 million for the destruction of Syria’s chemical weapons and related facilities on Tuesday.

In a statement released by India’s Foreign Ministry, India has offered a financial contribution of $1 million to the Trust Fund set up at the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) in The Hague for use in the destruction of Syria's chemical weapons and related facilities.

“India's assistance to the OPCW is a concrete demonstration of India's consistent position of support for the complete destruction and elimination of chemical weapons worldwide,” the statement said.

The statement declared that as India is a state party to Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), it has completed the destruction of its chemical weapons in accordance with the provisions laid down in the Convention.

India welcomed Syria’s accession to CWC and said that it welcomes progress on the time-bound safeguarding and destruction of Syria's chemical weapons.

India offered the services of its experts in the destruction verification activity by the OPCW. It also offered its training services for the personnel participating in UN / OPCW missions for the destruction of Syria's chemical weapons.
