NIGDE, Turkey
Three people, including a soldier and a police officer, were killed in an armed attack in Turkey's central Anatolian province of Nigde, according to the Interior Ministry.
Assailants opened fire when Turkish gendarmerie and police teams wanted to stop their minibus at a road checkpoint near Ulukisla town, security sources told the Anadolu Agency.
The gendarmerie and special operations teams immediately chased after the assailants who escaped in a truck they had seized.
The Interior Ministry has said the third person killed in the attack was the driver of the truck.
The assailants then broke into a health center in Eminlik village and took the people inside hostage.
After nearly a one-hour operation, the hostages were released, and the security forces reportedly captured two of the three assailants.
The gendarmerie and police teams are still searching for the assailant at large, said local security officials.
