Turkey’s parliament will hold an extraordinary meeting Wednesday following a Republican People’s Party (CHP) call to discuss military operations against Kurdish rebels and Daesh.
Parliament Speaker Ismet Yilmaz has contacted Turkey’s four main political parties, summoning them on Wednesday at 3.00 p.m. local time [1200 GMT]
Turkey has launched air attacks against Daesh and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), which is listed as a terror organization by the U.S., the EU and Turkey.
On Friday night and in the early hours of Saturday, Turkish jets bombed PKK camps in northern Iraq for the first time in the last two-and-a-half years. Turkey also launched attacks against Daesh.
Warplanes again hit PKK targets inside and outside Turkey on Sunday night.
Separately, Turkish police have detained a total of 590 people, including at least 37 foreigners, suspected of having ties with terrorist groups across Turkey, said Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu at the weekend.
Davutoglu said that 302 people had been detained on Friday and 288 others on Saturday.
The airstrikes and the nationwide anti-terror operation come after 32 people were killed in the southeastern Turkish province of Sanliurfa on July 20 in a suicide bombing blamed on Daesh.
Following the bomb, four Turkish police officers were killed in various attacks; the PKK claimed responsibility for at least one of these.
