Iraq: Daesh destroys Albu Farraj Bridge north of Ramadi

ANBAR, Iraq

Daesh militants have destroyed the important Albu Farraj Bridge in the north of Ramadi city, a government official has said.

The bridge in the capital of the western province of Anbar was destroyed when a Daesh militant remotely detonated an explosives-laden car, Azal Obeid, a member of Anbar province’s council, told The Anadolu Agency on Saturday.

The bridge, which was built in 2013, is significant because it connects Ramadi city with the international highway, he said.

More than 500 families fled the Albu Farraj area on Friday after Daesh seized control of the area.

The Iraqi security forces had to retreat from Albu Farraj after clashing with Daesh.
