On August 14, hundreds of supporters of ousted elected president Mohamed Morsi were killed in the violent dispersal of two protest camps in Cairo and Giza.

In the 100 days since, the four-fingered, bright yellow "Rabaa Salute" has become the symbol of the twinmassacres in Rabaa al-Adawiya and Nahda squares.

In recent months, a host of public personalities and athletes – Egyptians and non-Egyptians – have been seen flashing the now-famous sign in memory of the bloody events of August 14 and those who fell that day.

The following is a timeline of prominent figures seen flashing the "Rabaa Salute" since its inception 100 days ago.

August 17 – Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan flashes the Rabaa Salute while giving a speech in the western city of Borsa.

August 18 – Emre Belözoğlu, captain of Turkish football club Fenerbahçe, gives the four-fingered salute in solidarity with pro-Morsi demonstrators after scoring a goal for his team against Konyaspor.

August 20 – Malian footballer Frederic Kanoute tweets a photo of himself flashing the four-fingered salute.

September 26 – An Egyptian student flashes the salute during a visit to her school by Education Minister Mahmoud Abul-Nasr, infuriating the latter.

October 4 – Egyptian news anchor Amani Kamal is arrested for having the Rabaa sign and posters depicting the ousted president in her car.

October 9 – Moroccan actress Fatma Wishay flashes the Rabaa Salute, expressing her rejection of what she describes as the July 3 "military coup" against Egypt's first freely elected president.

October 15 – Mauritanian poet Ould Belamsh flashes the salute on Saudi Arabia's Mount Arafat, which marks the peak of the Muslim Hajj pilgrimage.

October 27 – Egyptian Kung Fu champion Mohamed Youssef wears a bright yellow t-shirt emblazoned with the Rabaa symbol while receiving a gold medal at an international championship in Russia. The athlete is laterslapped with a one-year ban from all sporting activity and barred from contesting the 12th World Wushu Championships in Malaysia.

November 10 – Egyptian footballer Ahmed Abdel-Zaher flashes the Rabaa Salute after scoring a goal for Egypt's popular Al-Ahly club in CAF Champions League finals.

November 13 – Former Kuwaiti lawmaker Waleed al-Tabtabai posts a photo of himself giving the Rabaa Salutebefore being questioned on charges of "rioting" after expressing support for Egypt's ousted president.

November 16 – Images bearing the Rabaa Salute are raised during the 5th conference of Algeria's IslamistNahda movement.

November 17 – Egyptian female Kung Fu player Randa Tariq flashes the salute while receiving a gold medal for the under-18 category in a local tournament.
