MUGLA, Turkey
A court in Turkey’s Aegan province of Mugla on Monday indicted 47 suspects on charges of being involved in an assassination attempt on the Turkish president during the July 15 defeated coup.
The Chief Public Prosecutor Necip Topuz's Office in Mugla province filed the indictment against the suspects, which includes three fugitives on Nov. 15 before a penal court.
Mugla's Chief Public Prosecutor Necip Topuz, in a written statement, said the indictment was complete and the prosecution process had begun.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who was vacationing in southwestern Mugla province on the night of July 15, had departed for Istanbul after being alerted about the coup bid and narrowly escaped with his life after an armed attack on the hotel he was staying in western Marmaris province. The hotel was bombed 15 minutes after his departure.
The July 15 defeated coup left 248 people died and 2,193 others injured.
