Turkish representatives are attending the opening day of the annual general assembly of Interpol's governing body, where they are expected to back membership applications by Kosovo and Palestine.

The 85th Interpol General Assembly -- being held Nov. 7-10 in the resort island of Bali -- is being attended by a delegation from the Turkish National Police’s Interpol department, headed by Lutfi Cicek.

According to an official statement issued by Turkish National Police, the officials will also give details to participating countries on the Fetullah Terrorist Organization's (FETO) plot to overthrow Turkey's elected government on July 15, along with concerns about recent activities by FETO and the PKK and YPG terrorist organizations.

They will also hold bilateral talks with representatives from several countries.

The assembly is composed of delegates appointed by the governments of member countries.

As Interpol's supreme governing body, it meets once a year and takes all major decisions affecting general policy, the resources needed for international cooperation, working methods, finances and programs of activities.

It also elects the organization's executive committee, in which each member country represented has one vote.

This year, Palestine, Kosovo and the Solomon Islands are vying for candidacy, of which Turkey has said it will support the bids by Palestine and Kosovo

Led by the United States-based Fetullah Gulen, FETO is accused of orchestrating Turkey’s July 15 coup plot as well as being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the Turkish state through the infiltration of institutions, particularly the military, police and judiciary.

The July 15 defeated coup left 246 people martyred and 2,194 injured.
