A top aide to Egyptian Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim was assassinated on Tuesday by unidentified gunmen outside his Giza home.

"Gen. Mohamed Said, director of the technical office of the interior minister, was going into the car outside his home in the Talbiya district when unidentified gunmen opened fire, killing him instantly," a security source told Anadolu Agency.

The Interior Ministry has confirmed the assassination, saying it was carried out by two men on a motorbike.

Senior police officer Mohamed Mabrouk, who had been in charge of the counter-terrorism file at the ministry's Homeland Security Agency, was shot dead outside his Cairo home last November.

Last September, Ibrahim's motorcade was bombed as he left his home in Cairo's Nasr City district.

One conscript was killed in the attack and more than 20 injured, including ten from the minister's personal security detail.

The two attacks were later claimed by shadowy militant group Ansar Beit al-Maqdis.
