WASHINGTON

Dozens of demonstrators took to Naypidaw’s embassy in Washington to protest against the treatment of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

“They [the Myanmar government] are actually committing genocide against the Muslim population of Burma and the Rohingyas,” said Yusuf Iqbal, a member of the Myanmar Muslim Civil Rights Movement, as demonstrators gathered around him.

“They actually want the people to die in concentration camps, and this is a crime against humanity,” he added.

Approximately 1.3 million Rohingya Muslims live in Myanmar. Tens of thousands were displaced from their home last June in riots in the Rakhine state.

Iqbal's organization, along with four others, organized Thursday’s demonstration, which saw around 30 protesters flock to Northwest Washington.
