BAGHDAD
At least 10 Iraqi officers have been taken captive Saturday by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant militants in the northern province of Mosul, local police said.
“Ten officers, who were on duty, were kidnapped by ISIL and taken to an unknown place,” Mosul Police Captain Ahmad al-Jabbar told The Anadolu Agency.
The police captain said that the kidnapped officers included some of high rank.
Meanwhile, at least four people were killed and another 10 were injured when a planted bomb was detonated in Iraq’s capital, Baghdad.
Iraq has been gripped by a security vacuum since June, when the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, or ISIL, stormed the northern province of Mosul and declared what it calls a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.
