KARACHI, Pakistan

A powerful earthquake shook parts of Pakistan, India and Afghanistan late Sunday, sending panicked people on to the streets, officials said.

The epicentre of the 6.2-magnitude was 86 kilometers (53 miles) below the border between Tajikistan and Afghanistan, according to Pakistan monitors. There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Last month a 7.8-magnitude earthquake killed nearly 400 people in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Tremors shook Pakistan’s northern Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Punjab provinces as well as capital Islamabad and Azad Kashmir - the same areas that were hit by last month's quake - at around 11.30 p.m. local time (18:30GMT).

People rushed to open spaces to avoid injury from damaged buildings, local officials reported.
