A Turkish soldier has succumbed to wounds after being shot during PKK attacks in the southeastern Sirnak province, a security source said.

A group of terrorists attacked police and gendarmerie headquarters as well as police housing with long-barreled guns and rocket launchers in the province’s Beytussebap district, an unnamed security source said late Saturday, speaking on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the press.

A soldier injured in the attack later succumbed to wounds in hospital.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, nearly 600 security personnel, including troops, police officers, and village guards, have been martyred, and more than 7,700 PKK terrorists neutralized in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
