Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim on Saturday confirmed reports that Turkey’s military chief had been rescued from pro-coup forces.
He said Gen. Hulusi Akar, the chief of the general staff, had been rescued and taken to the operations center dealing with attempt to unseat the government.
“Chief of Staff Hulusi Akar was rescued unharmed and now is on duty at the crisis center in Cankaya,” Yildirim said on Twitter.
Akar was rescued from an air force base to the north of the capital Ankara, where he had been held hostage.
