Turkish anti-terrorism officers on Friday detained 56 Daesh suspects in four provinces as part of a nationwide operation against Daesh terrorist group, a police source said.

In Ankara, 17 suspects were seized at 20 addresses across the province while nine others were arrested in the Aegean province of Izmir.

In Konya, central Turkey, 20 suspects were held and another 20 were nabbed in the Seyhan district of Adana province, southern Turkey.

According to the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media, police also seized several documents from the suspects.

The move comes after the Turkish army and anti-Daesh coalition forces launched a military operation early Wednesday in northern Syria against the terrorist group.

Rocket attacks on the Turkish province of Kilis from Daesh-held territory in Syria have killed at least 21 people while suicide bomb attacks linked to the group have killed hundreds, including 54 at a wedding party in the southern city of Gaziantep on Saturday.
