MALATYA, Turkey
Turkish security forces killed at least one PKK terrorist in eastern Malatya province, a security source said Friday.
The source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on talking to the media, said the security forces conducted a counter-terrorism operation on intelligence information in Yesilyurt district.
Terrorist opened fire on the security forces that followed a clash. A terrorist, armed with 1 long-barreled rifle with 4 spare magazines, was killed in the encounter.
500 kilograms (1103 pounds) of ammonium nitrate and 8 detonators were also seized in the operation.
More than 1,200 people, including security force personnel and civilians, have lost their lives since the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July 2015.
