OSMANIYE, Turkey

Three people were injured Wednesday in a PKK attack in Turkey's southern province of Osmaniye, according to the governor.

Kerem Al told reporters that five mortar shells were fired from Amanos Mountains into nearby Gebeli and Selimiye neighborhoods.

The wounded, including a mother and her 4-year-old son, were taken to the hospital following the attack, and were in good condition, Al said.

An operation is ongoing to catch the terrorists, he added.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and EU -- resumed its decades-old armed campaign in July last year.

Since then, PKK terrorist attacks martyred more than 700 security personnel and also claimed the lives of many civilians, including women and children, while nearly 8,000 PKK terrorists were killed in army operations.
