DIYARBAKIR, Turkey

Seven police officers were martyred Thursday afternoon in a PKK bomb attack in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakir, said the Turkish minister of development.

Cevdet Yilmaz told reporters that 13 police officers, including one in critical condition, and 14 civilians, including one also in critical condition were injured when a bomb exploded while a police service vehicle was passing in Diyarbakir province’s Baglar district.

The Diyarbakir prosecutor office, in charge of investigating the attack, said it suspected a parked car bomb was detonated when the special operation police forces' vehicle was passing.

Numerous cars near the explosion site, the Intercity bus terminal and other buildings were damaged as well.

The PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and the EU – resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.

Since then, over 350 members of the security forces have been martyred and thousands of PKK terrorists killed in operations across Turkey and northern Iraq.
