German tourists favored Turkey in 2015, as most tourists arrived from that country during the first eight months of this year, according to Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Turkey.
About 3.75 million German tourists have visited Turkey this year. Russian tourists were next at 2.78 million.
In the first eight months of last year, there were 3.5 million Russian tourists arriving in Turkey, the largest amount in that period.
The U.K. provided the third-largest number of tourists to Turkey in 2015, at 1.8 million in the first eight months of the year.
The Chairman of the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB) Basaran Ulusoy interpreted the data in an interview with Anadolu Agency. He said the devaluation of Turkish lira against the euro gave Turkish tourism an important advantage and helps Turkey to compete better.
“We think this trend will continue in the near future as well, but we should be careful that Turkey does not present an image as a ‘cheap country’ while offering affordable vacations.”
