Turkish security forces killed nine PKK terrorists Thursday in the country’s southeastern Hakkari and eastern Tunceli provinces in separate operations, security sources and the Hakkari governorate have said.
Five PKK terrorists were killed in Hakkari province, the city governorship said.
“Turkish gendarme officers carried out an operation against terrorists who were about to attack Agacdibi and Ogul villages of the province,” read a statement issued by the Hakkari governorship.
Meanwhile, four other PKK terrorists were killed in eastern Tunceli province on the Tunceli-Ovacik highway, according to officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
One civilian who was injured during the clash died later at Tunceli State Hospital, the local governorate confirmed.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its 30-year armed campaign against the Turkish state in July 2015.
Since then, more than 600 security personnel have been martyred and more than 7,000 PKK terrorists have been killed.
