IZMIR, Turkey

Seven suspects have been taken into custody by the police in anti-terror operations in western province of Izmir in Turkey early Wednesday.

Police said that they had apprehended seven people on the grounds that they are members of the PKK's YDG-H (Patriotic Revolutionary Youth Movement).

The suspects were reportedly wanted by police for making propaganda for the terrorist organization PKK during unauthorized demonstrations in Izmir, attacking security forces with stones and Molotov cocktails as well as blocking roads with garbage containers.

The police, who made simultaneous operations in Izmir, also seized numerous documents.

Meanwhile three suspects apprehended Wednesday an anti-terror operation against the YDG-H in the southeastern province of Batman were remanded in custody by the judicial authorities, said police sources.

During the operation, long-barreled weapons, a pistol, 10 magazines, 300 bullets, and explosives were seized, police said.

The PKK -- designated a terrorist organization also by the U.S. and the EU -- renewed its armed campaign against the Turkish state in late-July, since when more than 200 members of the security forces have been martyred.
