Turkey: Boy killed as abandoned rocket goes off
Three other children hurt when explosive projectile found near school detonated
DIYARBAKIR, Turkey
A nine-year-old boy has died after being severely injured when a rocket projectile found near a school in the southeastern province of Diyarbakir exploded, according to hospital sources Thursday.
Three other boys were hurt in Thursday’s blast in Diyarbakir's Silvan district and were taken to Silvan Public Hospital.
The projectile was found by the children in an area which has seen heavy clashes between the PKK and Turkish security forces, leading to a curfew.
An explosion occurred as the children were "fiddling” with the device, hospital sources said.
