A Turkish soldier was martyred in a rocket attack by PKK terrorists in Turkey’s eastern Hakkari province, the military said Friday.
In a statement, the Turkish General Staff said that the soldier was martyred in an attack targeting the Zer Tepe military base in the Cukurca district.
Later on Friday, the Hakkari governor's office said in a statement that the corpse of a killed PKK terrorist was found in the Semdinli district, while security forces were searching the area.
The statement added that PKK members had been spotted in the area and had been fired upon on Tuesday.
The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.
Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of more than 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including women and children.
