UN: No record of Russia humanitarian aid for Syria

GENEVA

A United Nations spokesperson says there is no record of Russia giving Syria any humanitarian aid.

"Russia may be giving something to Syria but they did not verify those reports to us," a U.N. Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs public information officer told the Anadolu Agency on Tuesday. "By the U.N. financial tracking system, Russia has not provided any humanitarian aid for Syria."

Jens Laerke also said that the Syrian regime has not granted aid convoys permission to cross the Turkish border into northern Syria.

"We cannot cross the border without their agreement," he said. "But, it would be very helpful and a lot easier for us to deliver aid into Syria if we could cross from Turkey."
