WASHINGTON
A U.S. airstrike has killed at least eight suspected al-Shabaab militants in Somalia, the Pentagon said Tuesday.
Capt. Jeff Davis told reporters that the militants were targeted by unmanned aircraft in southern Somalia on Monday night.
"They were posing imminent threat to U.S. personnel," he said.
Turmoil in the country makes it nearly impossible to verify the claims.
The strike comes less than a month after the U.S. military targeted a training camp of the militant group in Somalia in which the Pentagon said an airstrike had killed more than 150 fighters.
In that strike, some local media outlets reported that civilians were among the victims.
